Becoming a mother is transformative, but adding entrepreneurship into the mix brings a new level of intensity, challenge, and meaning. It’s a path many women are drawn to because it offers a unique blend of independence, passion, and a chance to carve out something meaningful. But this journey is no small feat—it’s a game-changer that reshapes how we see ourselves and how others see us, too.
The Allure of Dual Roles: Why So Many Moms Choose Entrepreneurship
For many mothers, the decision to become an entrepreneur is driven by a need for flexibility and fulfillment. The idea of building a business, or creating a platform where they can work around their children’s schedules and still make an impact, is incredibly appealing. Being a mom and an entrepreneur means living with purpose on multiple fronts—at home and in the world.
But is it really that glamorous?
But is it really that glamorous?
Pros: The Beautiful Upsides of Mompreneurship
- Freedom to Design Your Life: As an entrepreneur, you have the flexibility to structure your day around your children’s schedules. School drop-offs, doctor’s appointments, and soccer games can be managed with less guilt because you’re the boss.
- The Ultimate Role Model: When your kids watch you build something from scratch, they see perseverance, resilience, and hard work. They learn that it’s possible to pursue dreams with passion and grit, which can deeply impact their outlook on life.
- Enhanced Personal Growth: Motherhood is a crash course in patience, empathy, and time management—qualities that are also essential in entrepreneurship. Juggling these two roles stretches you in ways that reveal strengths you never knew you had.
- Creating a Legacy: You’re not only nurturing a family but building something with potential to impact others and, possibly, to hand down to your children. This dual legacy—both familial and entrepreneurial—is powerful.
Cons: The Not-So-Glamorous Realities of Mompreneur Life
- The Myth of Balance: Despite what social media might portray, true balance is elusive. The demands of both roles are constant, and the to-do lists never seem to end. One role inevitably spills into the other, and there are days when it feels like neither is getting your best.
- Guilt, Guilt, Guilt: Guilt is a constant companion. When you’re working on your business, you feel guilty about not being fully present for your kids, and when you’re with your kids, there’s guilt about neglecting your business. It can feel like you’re failing one whenever you focus on the other.
- Exhaustion is Real: Working late nights or early mornings while managing the energy it takes to raise children can drain even the most resilient moms. Burnout becomes a looming risk, and self-care is often the first thing to fall by the wayside.
- Isolation: The reality of balancing these roles often feels like an isolated journey. Friends with traditional jobs or who are stay-at-home moms may not relate to the unique struggles of mompreneurship, making it harder to find a community that truly understands.

What Others See vs. What I Feel
What Others See:
"She who hold the power, hold the potential to profit"
To the outside world, a mompreneur’s life can seem glamorous and exciting. Friends and family may admire the “freedom” to work from home and see entrepreneurship as an empowering choice. Social media, with its curated content, often reinforces the image of the “supermom” who has it all figured out. Some might even assume that being your own boss makes life easier or more forgiving.
What I Feel:
Behind the scenes, the experience is deeply personal, and sometimes lonely. The world may see confidence, but it often masks self-doubt. I may appear organized and in control, but I frequently feel like I’m juggling too many plates. My heart is split between a business I’m passionate about and children who are my world, and both need me in ways I can’t always satisfy. I feel the thrill of entrepreneurship, but it’s tempered by the emotional labor and physical exhaustion of parenting.
The truth is, this dual journey is layered with highs and lows, moments of pure joy and of stress-induced tears. The thrill of landing a new client can be followed by the frustration of a toddler’s tantrum, and the sense of accomplishment in business sometimes competes with the need to be present at home. The biggest game-changer isn’t just balancing these roles; it’s learning to embrace the ebbs and flows that each one brings.
Let's flip the picture here:
We know there is always at least two sides to the story. at least. It's not only one way or another in any situation, thought or story. As high high and low low it can feel, of course there is the grey in-between. What do I mean by that:
As high high it can feel with the cheers, likes, comments and high fives on the social medias. Just as low low can it feel with that one negative comment or that one hang out with someone disagreeing with my inner core values, meanings or beliefs.
What's the grey in that you might ask?
The interference in-between. it's not always that black and white and even more difficult to pull apart from each other. One negative comment might infect the ten positive one's. how come?
As an mompreneur it's near to impossible not to have, make and create it personal. It's crafted from within so without. It took me (and still does at times) a lot of effort and healing not to let me be influenced by that negative vibe, and to transmute it into fuel.
Turn it to power.
"If you agree with everyone, you agree with no-one" and you've missed your own voice along the way. So, what to do. Transform your belief. Instead of being afraid of the controversial conversations and maybe the negative comments and disagreements. Flip it. Those who goes viral knows that they contain a controversial belief that 50% of the population thinks to disagree in. You see but the other half is the cheering fan, thanking you for saying out loud what they didn't dare to.

Tips for Thriving as a Mom and Entrepreneur
- Prioritize Ruthlessly: Learn to say no to anything that doesn’t align with your goals for your business or your family. This might mean less networking, fewer social commitments, and focusing only on the most critical tasks each day.
- Find Support Systems: Building a support network of other mompreneurs can be a lifeline. Whether it’s through online communities or local meet-ups, these connections can offer validation, advice, and much-needed encouragement.
- Practice Self-Compassion: You’re doing two of the hardest jobs simultaneously, so cut yourself some slack. Celebrate the small wins and remind yourself that perfection isn’t the goal.
- Embrace Flexibility: Let go of rigid expectations and learn to adapt. Some days will be business-focused, and others will require you to be more present at home. Flexibility will help you feel less like you’re failing and more like you’re adapting.
- Protect Your Energy: Carve out small moments for yourself. Even five minutes to recharge can help you regain focus and patience, whether it's through meditation, exercise, or reading.
The Game-Changer Takeaway
Being a mom and an entrepreneur is a journey filled with both chaos and beauty. It challenges every part of you and tests your resilience. But it also gives you a unique opportunity to design a life with purpose, to model resilience for your children, and to redefine success on your own terms. Others might only see the polished moments, but we know the game is won in the everyday, often messy balancing act.
It’s not about “having it all”; it’s about choosing what matters most and doing the best with what we’ve got. Embracing the imperfect journey, knowing you’re a stronger woman because of it, is perhaps the biggest reward of all.
